Alexander Ströck’s paintings originate in the observation of urban spaces and the developments that unfold within them: from modern theatre, musical references, and elements of pop culture to the Old Master painting of Pieter Bruegel.

Ströck’s compositions bring together archetypal places and stylized figures. Vulnerable, organic forms encounter the hardness of the surrounding structures.

Within this tension, a wide spectrum of human states and contrasts unfolds: at times, the figures appear in existential stillness; at others, in moments of fleeting communication or subtle unease. These are characters that resist quick definition and invite the viewer to decipher their roles.

An essential aspect of his work is the use of diverse artistic techniques. Alongside oil painting and various manual printing methods, Ströck employs reverse glass painting. He removes this technique from its traditional context and transforms it into a contemporary form through unconventional painting methods and layered applications of colour.

The works thrive on the tension between linear rigidity and painterly openness. Dense situational scenes emerge, making the position of the individual within a forming or dissolving crowd palpable. Ströck’s works are a search for traces of human presence — moments at the tipping point between appearance and disappearance.
