Edges and Études brings together two distinct yet resonating artistic positions — Marianne Lang and Michaela Spiegel — who express the interplay of form, tension, and embodied experience through their work in different ways.
Marianne Lang’s precisely executed water formations challenge our perception of natural forces. Her symmetrically composed, almost hyperreal wave structures combine aesthetic beauty with latent threat. In her works, the order of nature begins to falter — surreal scenarios emerge in which the laws of physics appear suspended and tension dominates the pictorial surface.
In contrast, Michaela Spiegel celebrates fluidity, sensuality, and femininity in her ongoing series Études. Drawings unfold in pastel on acrylic-primed paper like musical “études” — playful, intuitive, and physically perceptible. Spiegel situates her work within feminist traditions of abstraction, understanding the body not as an object but as a present, joyful, and transcendent force.
In the juxtaposition of these two bodies of work, a dynamic dialogue emerges between control and spontaneity, structure and sensation. Edges and Études invites reflection on those threshold zones where form becomes feeling — and art becomes a space of insight.
