Peter Baldinger’s latest works engage with the ambivalence of icons. Under the title ICONtrast, the exhibition questions the tension between admiration and critique, between collective memory and individual perception.
Baldinger’s abstract portraits of famous personalities oscillate between the familiar and the estranged, between clarity and dissolution — a play with identity, projection, and myth. Who are our icons really? And what remains of them when their contours begin to blur?
